About

Cast50 is a movie podcast exploring female artistry within the film community, focusing on one movie at a time. The film industry has been male dominated for most of its history. As of late, more notice is being given to the women who helped catapult the industry into existence and to those making a stand against blatant sexism and discrimination. With the world population being split 50/50 between male & female, isn’t it about time we acknowledge these amazing women for all of their efforts?

Aimee Harmon grew up in the 80’s and was exposed to an array of movies thanks to her family's love of cinema and music. As a child, she would stay up late and watch television programs, such as Alfred Hitchcock presents, while everyone else was asleep. The family home had a long hallway lined with bookcases that were filled with VHS, spanning several decades and genres. As a teenager, her curiosity towards foreign, older movies from the 30’s - 50’s,  and non-mainstream movies grew. Her collection ranged from VHS to Laserdisc & DVD. While she has no professional experience concerning cinema history, Aimee has become very familiar, through her own studies, with the enforced lack of female involvement within the industry and cinema as a whole.

JJ DiUbaldi grew up enjoying a lot of American classics from his family's collection of VHS tapes recorded from HBO. He avoided watching horror films for many years after seeing The Exorcist as a 12 year old. Many years later, after some college classes in feminism and hearing about the Bechdel Test, he took a more critical look at how films affect society. He also somehow turned into a hifi snob, so he gets excited about new 4K releases and restorations of old films. On Zepfanman.com, he’s been working on a “10 Years 10 Films” YouTube series of world movie history. Cast50 is his second foray into movie podcasting - the first being “The Persistence of Popcorn” (aka Persistopop), available on Archive.org.
